Chandra is an Indian / Sanskrit name, and the name of the moon god. In the US there was a trend of interest in eastern spirituality, mysticism and religion during that decade, as well as a trend of Ch- (pronounced “sh”) names, such as Cher, Charlene, and Cheryl.
