[Opinions] Wdyt of Gazelle and Fawn? nt
..
Replies
Fawn is okay because it reminds me of the fairy, but Gazelle is horrible.
I don’t like Gazelle as a name, looks like a misspelling of Giselle. Names meaning gazelle are a far better option.
Fawn I find very sweet, but for a mn.

I honestly misread it as Giselle at first.
Stripper names
I don't like them
Gazelle sort of makes me laugh because I think it is a mistaken reading of Giselle. It's weird as a name.
Fawn is nms, mainly because it is a baby animal. Fawns are appealing mainly for seeming clumsy and delicate and easy prey, and that makes it seem exceedingly weak. Also it reminds me of the verb too much, which is bad as a name concept, and also reminds me of "fond," and anyway I just don't like the faw sound. Has a similar vibe (rural waif, circa 1973) to Misty, Tawny, Dawn, Star, Lacey, Honey, Tammy, Shawna - so it does feel like a legit name, unlike Gazelle.
eta after reading Ohad Yigal's post: the reference to "my beloved is like a gazelle" gets at something I don't like about these names. I don't like the idea of naming a child, or aspiring on their behalf, with the same or similar disposition one brings to admiring a lover. I wouldn't want my parents to name me that way. YMMV

I hope all the Gazelles change their names to Giselle. How embarrassing.i
Well, there aren't that many of them ... I think IRL if it were an error, it would be a "laugh with" kind, not a "laugh at" kind, and wouldn't make anybody decide they didn't like it, if they did like it. And if it were meant to invoke animal grace, I would think 'welp, I hope that's because they don't see it the way that I do.' Just because I'm embarrassed doesn't mean I think they ought to feel embarrassed. Off topic rant: I react less badly to Gazelle, than to Fox as a name! Maybe because at least Gazelle does kinda recall a real name, with the elle ending - the connotations are vague and allusive, while Fox is surnamey and trendy, and literally the slang to refer to a person whose most relevant trait is sex-appeal, and also used in funny puns because it sounds a lot like a vulgar word.

"My beloved is similar to a Gazelle or a fqwn of the deer"- Song of Solomon. funnily enough, Zvi, hebrew for Gazelle, is a populae hebrew name since the late middle ages, and Ofer (fawn) is a popular modern hebrew name. However, unless I was some sort of native american, I wouldn't use the english equivalents.
Equally dreadful. I would feel very sorry for anyone who had either name.
Not for childrens names
