Azriel and Lenore thought they would be done at Wolf, no more kiddos. When Wolf was ten, they were surprised by the arrival of Fabian, another brunet son for the red-haired couple. Lenore jokes that ten years later there'll be another Riordan kid, but neither parent wants that to happen. Neither does Wolf, though to be fair he does seem to like Fabian, in a protective tough love kind of way but still.
Wolf went to the cemetery with a team of volunteers to help clean it up for his school's community service initiative. As he neared the edge of the cemetery, he heard a voice. It may have been his family's Gothic vibe, or traces of Azriel's alchemy, or even Lenore's supernatural blood also coursing through Wolf's veins that caused what was about to happen, but who's to know? A ghost manifested in front of Wolf, a boy of about twelve himself, and began talking to Wolf.
The boy, Zedd Lynch (death by lynching on suspicion of thievery), talked to Wolf every time he came to the cemetery. Soon, Wolf became the most frequent visitor and most trusted living human to many ghosts, as he gained friendships among those passed. Although it is a bit of a stretch for both parents (Az finds it pretty cool, Len not so much) they do permit it until things get dangerous or Lenore has a vision.
