My dad had two friends named Dale, one of which rented a room from us and one of which did some work on our house. The former was just odd, the latter quite cruel to me. Plus it’s the name of my boyfriends boss so I’m always hearing about how annoying Dale is. So I don’t like it, lol. Without all those associations, who knows. It’s cool that it’s a word for valley.
I just think it is very interesting how this name managed to stay overwhelmingly male in the United States despite having been the name of two very famous women, one fictional, one real:
Dale Arden, the love interest of Flash Gordon

and Dale Evans, actress, singer, and wife of Roy Rogers

Not a fan, for some reason can only think of dale eggs.
It's my uncle's name, and I've seen it used as a female name once in a while. I think of Dale Earlhardt, and Dale Evans (she was married to Roy Rogers. It has a very country feel.
It's a decent name.

I have a cousin named this. He's 12, has long curly hair, likes video games. It suits him ok.

Okay. That was mot the question.
Really? Those were my thoughts on it. If you want something more specific, you'll need to be more specific.
I've got a vague memory of it being used as a female name, perhaps in a comic-book for the superhero's sidekick? The only Dale I've known is definitely male, and his ln begins with L-, so the names run together inconveniently. I don't find it remotely interesting, but there's nothing wrong with it.
Dale Evans, married to Roy Rogers. She was instrumental in changing the way kids with Down Syndrome were treated. Before Evans most kids with Downs Syndrome were institutionalized, but Evans refused to do that. Instead she brought her child with her when performing.

Unfortnately she was also one of the celeberties, along with Ginger Rogers, that helped popularize the religious right.
