I like it, but for the early 2000s nostalgia from the singer, not the ancient princess. The historical stuff is a nice bonus. I think it's cute. I've known people named Dodie and Dodo and they seem to be getting through life just fine, so I think a Dido would be ok too. Dido feels gentle and artistic to me, I enjoy it.

My feelings about the name is wrapped up with my feelings about the character.
As the legendary founder and first queen of the Phoenician city-state of Carthage, I find it unlikely that someone as clever and resourceful as Dido would would jump into a pyre over Aeneas. Of course humans aren't always a consistent lot, so maybe it wasn't totally out of character. However, I believe there is a version of her story, not told by Virgil, where Dido kills herself rather than submit to a forced marriage to a neighboring king. Since her reason for for founding a city had to do with fleeing tyranny, I can see her willing to die before submitting. I think Dido would be more popular if it didn't rhyme with dodo. I like it better than Lola but less than Clio.

I don't like the name itself. I don't think its backstory makes it sound any better.

It sounds like a sex toy. So no.

I actually prefer Elissa! Which I don't like at all; shows what I think of Dido. As a name, that is - the character is sad and interesting, and her post-mortem composure, cutting Aeneas dead in the underworld, is magnificent. But it doesn't make Dido an attractive name or collection of sounds.

The Dido character is too depressing.

Even if we ignore the dildo angle, which is not easy, there is the die-doe pronunciation, which is ugly to me and sounds like a silly nn for a diaper. Lots of people call diapers didies, so didoes wouldn't be a big stretch.

I've never heard it either.

I love it! I was captivated by the literary Dido in middle school.
