I prefer Melody cause it's not overused like Melanie and I think its prettier. It reminds me of mermaids and music.

I like both. I actually think I prefer Melanie, but I think Melody is probably the one I'd be more likely to choose.

Probably Melody. Melanie has always had a "mean girl" image to me... and that is coming from someone with a family member named Melanie lol

Melody. It’s less dated and and even though it is a word, it’s more pleasant than Melanie which sounds like melon-y.

I don't usually enjoy word names, and Melody would be particularly awkward for me because I'm completely tone-deaf! So, although I find Melanie rather trite and sentimental, I'd take it rather than Melody any time. There have been a few sightings here in South Africa of Allegra, all I think in Afrikaans families: I wouldn't consider using it either.
