I’m not a fan for it as a given name but it’s fine as a nickname for a young girl named Barbara.
Oh, I thought your name was Bethany.
It's been on my mind because of the Barbie movie coming out. I think I'd like it if it weren't a rude slang word, like a woman being called: "hey, Malibu barbie!" (it's basically like being called plastic/vapid, while also being told you're pretty, and it's implied that that's connected). Barbara is a moderately interesting classic name but seems a little staid to me, so Barbie livens it up (it's spunky and sweeter than Barb; I don't like other Barbara NNs). The fact that it's an iconic doll would make me hesitant to use it, but it's the slang that makes it seem actually unappealing to me.

"Oh, I thought your name was Bethany". Same!!!
My middle\nickname is Bethany
Oh. That makes sense.
Too tied to the doll, for me. It's not the worst name ever, but I can't separate it from its place in pop culture.
I don't like it that reminds me of Barbie doll, plus it bothers me that it sounds like 'barbeque'.

It's ok as a nn for Barbara
I like it and wish it was in again.
Not a fan at all. I knew a girl born in the mid-80s who was called Barbie. I don't know if it was a nickname or her actual name though. Either way just no.
I have never met anyone named Barbie, even as a nn for Barbara. I don't expect to meet one either.
The only real-life Barbie I ever heard of was Barbi Benton, a very glamorous country singer and Playboy model waaay back.
Australian people call the barbecue grill the barbie, so it's probably doubly silly to them.

Yuck. Hope it doesn't get trendy.
As your name it's fine of course - lots of people are called Barbie and it's normal. I just don't like the name, taken as a name with no person attached. I'd say something similar about my own name actually - don't take this personally please.

Well, it is good.
I think it's chic as a nickname for Barbara.
Acceptable as a nn for Barbara, although I prefer Babs. Not a good idea as a full name: too linked with the vast spectrum of dolls.
