Right! That does make sense - thank you. You'd have added complications in South Africa, where Jacob can be used in both English and Afrikaans, though Afrikaans tends to prefer Jakob. But ... JAYcob in English, YAHkob in Afrikaans, and even the o is different. Same with Deborah: in English it would sound like Debra, but in Afrikaans it would look like Deborah but sound like deBOOEra. Which just adds to the fun, really.
