[Opinions] Re: Elaine
I say eeLAYN, perhaps closer to iLAYN. So does my cousin's Elaine friend, but my aunt always says EElayn. I associate it with my SIL, who is elegant, beautiful and lots of fun, and with my cousin's friend, who is plump and forgettable. Elayn looks like a spelling error, or a bad suggestion by a spellchecker; Alaine should, surely, be the fem form of Alain? So the A- sound would be different from the E-.I'd never use it IRL; I much prefer Helen, which I'd use at a moment's notice.
