Do you think it would be insane to use Madison on a boy today??

Madison was one of those names I use to like (with Greyson and Mason), but it's 100% in the girls' camp now, and it shortens to Maddie. Madison is such a little princess name I can't imagine a boy with the name, unless it was spelled Mattison or something. There's atleast 2 Madisons (or Madysyn, etc) in a class, it would seem really unfair for a little boy to have to deal with that, plus all the harrassing an adult guy would get for having a girlie name.

Yeah, I don't know. I won't actually be naming any children for a good ten years, so maybe by then the associations will have died down somewhat.

Actually I think Madison sounds very much a surname, not suitable as fn for anyone.
And as it seemss that boys must be very macho in USA, it seems unwise to give a boy which is so very popular for girls.
I think a more uncommon name, like Maximilian, Malachy or Matthias, would be much better.

Personally, I'm not opposed to the surnames-as-first names thing, but I know that a lot of people don't care for it.
You might be right about the macho thing, although, since I think that's a gross part of my culture, giving into feels hypocritical... But maybe it would be unfair to force my opinions on my son.

I think its too girly despite the son at the end. I know (or have heard of) too many girls with this name. )

Wonderful for a boy
Aside from the whole meaning issue, Madison is simply too overused for girls at the moment imo. On the contrary, Madison for a boy sounds very refreshing to me.
I especially like Madison if the mother's name is Maud or Matilda.

The name Madison as a given name is not my style in general. However, if one were to use it as such I would much prefer it on a boy. If you like Madison for a boy and its current high popularity on girls doesn't bother you, go for it (then again I'm a strong supporter of using boy-turned-girl names on their original gender).

Boy name, for sure
I love the name Madison for a boy...that's the only way I even like it. On girls I find names ending in -son to be highly annoying not to mention completey absurd. That's just My opinion though, so no one jump down my throat.

-son names on girls really get to me. I think Madison is a great boys' name, but I wouldn't want to curse my kid with a name that everyone else finds ridiculus.

My friends brother's name is MAdison, and there's nothing wrong with him. By that, I mean he doesn't get picked on or anything because of his name. I think I like it more for a boy than a girl.

Well, although it really, really SHOULD be a boys name (sigh), I think that it is entirely too popular for girls to use on a boy. It's been taken over. I don't really care for it either way, though.

I think that in today's world a male Madison would be a target for bullying. Most people don't realize that Madison started off as a surname/ male name.
However, I do like the name on a boy. Maybe for a middle name?
