[Opinions] Mirella
Mirella is the middle name of Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland. What do you think about it?~*~*~*~kuin metsäorvokki laaksossa

I prefer Mireille, if I wanted something like Mirella I would’ve just used Aella honestly. But it’s an okay name and I like it more as a middle name.

It’s okay, but for some reason I don’t like it as much as I feel like I should. I also prefer the spelling Mirela.

Although Mireille is my favourite and I have Mirèio as a GP too, Mirella is a name that has always struck me as foreign and fresh, since in my country the only traditional forms are Mireya and Mireia, the latter being Catalan; however, Mirella has enjoyed of some little usage as well, making it recognisable. The -ella ending is somewhat usable in an English context, and in other languages, I must say.I also like that's used in many languages, such as Hungarian, Finnish, Italian or Polish (rarely).By the way, how common and old is this name in Finland?

Mirella has been used in Finland since the 1960's or the 1970's, its popularity peaking in the 1980's and the 1990's (Marin herself was born in 1985). There are roughly 1800 Mirellas in Finland, so it isn't the most common name but not unheard-of.

Thanks for the info! So, in terms of popularity, one could say it's the Finnish counterpart of Tabitha?

I guess so. (OT: I never realized that Tabitha's popularity peaked that late: because of its ancient origin, I had thought that it was more a timeless classic.)

Reminds me of Marilla, an old fave from my childhood. It's cute.

I love Mirella. It reminds me of a character who spells her name Marella but pronounces it the same way. I also like Mireille, Mireya, Mireia, Miranda, etc. Mir- names in general are attractive.

It's good; there are other Finnish names I prefer, but it's OK. I like Mireille better, though. Are they related?

Yes, Mirella is actually an Italian variant of Mireille.

Interesting - thank you!

While I vastly prefer the similar Miranda, I do like Mirella. This is actually a very intriguing family of names, imo: Mireia, Mireille, Mirèio (total GP), and of course Mirella.
