Help[Opinions] Joey (on a girl)
I was watching the end of a Netflix show (Dead to Me) and at the end the main character has a daughter named Joey. I’m pretty sure this isn’t a nickname because she said she wanted a gender neutral name for the kid and I can’t think of any gender neutral names that would have the nickname Joey.
Anyways, what do you think? Not terrible but it’s a bit childish and I could see the kid changing her name to Joanna or Josephine when she gets older. I think the mom should’ve went with Jo or Jamie.

I know a female Joey but I think I still significantly prefer Josie.

There's an actress named Joey King. As far as I can tell, Joey is her actual, legal name. I guess it fits her in a kind of sporty, bada$$ way, but it's difficult for me to take the name seriously. I already think it sounds bratty on a boy - not to mention it's the term for juvenile marsupials. (Can't get behind Fawn as a name for this reason, either.)

I don't like Joey as a full name on anyone but definitely not on a girl. And it definitely screams boy to me not gender neutral.

It's fine as a nickname - tomboyish and dishevelled - but not as a full name.

It always makes me think of Katie Holmes's character Joey Potter in the TV show "Dawson's Creek". So, I think Joey is the ultimate tomboy name. I love it. I also happened to have a professor named Joey (just Joey, not Josephine) in university. She was a wonderful professor and really lived up to my image of the name Joey in my head. Joey King, the actor from "The Kissing Booth" rocks the name too. It just seems artsy and fun to me. I do prefer Josephine nn Joey, but just Joey is cool too.

Joey as a full name, and not as a nick, does seem sort of trendy-galname-like (again). Since Zoe (y) and Chloe (y) set a precedent recently. But I don't like it. It makes me think of baby kangaroos.

I suppose it could be short for Jordan, though it's a bit of a stretch. Joey is all boy to me, and a very babyish boy name too. Widdle Joey wet his pants!
