[Opinions] Re: I can’t choose between Helena and Lorelei
in reply to a message by belleolivia__
I like Lorelei personally, it sounds softer and more youthful. Plus, I like the the mythological connotations. There’s a poem by Heinrich Hein about the Lorelei (can’t remember how the name is spelled in the poem, it might have been Lorelai) that I always liked, so I tend to think of that.
Helena is alright. It makes me think of Helena Bonham Carter mostly, which is kind of cool, but I don’t really have any other associations for the name so it is kind of neutral to me.

Heinrich Heine spells the Name Lore-Ley. Normally it's spelled Loreley in Germany. There are several poems (plus a rock and numerous ships) named Loreley in Germany
Hey, thanks! I never knew that. I first read the poem in a junior high literature class. The text book must have translated the name too, maybe to make it more recognizable for English readers. I quite like the original spelling; I’ll have to make a note of it for the next time I read the poem!
