[Opinions] Ayna
This name is becoming a little trendy in Russia. What are your thoughts and what do you think of Ayna on a Russian girl?

I mean, in the plural or possessive it would sound like a synonym for butthole, so… pass. Are you sure that the name isn’t showing a Russian popularity spike due to misspellings of Anya?

Anya is used only as a diminutive of Anna in Russia. It has three letters if spelled in Russian alphabet, while Ayna has four.

I am Russian and I never heard of this trend. Ayna sounds like a random foreign name to me. I think it's weird on a Slavic girl, but can work on a girl from Muslim background.

I like it but I prefer Aina, I like the look of the i better and it also doesn't look like Anya.

I don't care for it and as WrittenWroteAndWritten said, confusing on the eyes. I initially thought it said 'Anya' A name I much rather prefer.

I think that in Russia they are unlikely to do what I do, which is hear it as the German word Eine, as in Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. And good luck to them! But it doesn't work for me.

Lovely name! I'm biased as I love Kazakh names and Ayna is the Russified version of the Kazakh name Aina (meaning mirror), but I think it's beautiful. For me it evokes the Turkic element Ay-, meaning moon. Perhaps westerners would prefer it spelt Aina, as they seem to get confused since it looks close to Anya. Personally, I prefer Ayna / Aina to Anya.
