[Facts] Rubens
Hey,
this page states, that Rubens is a variant form of Reuben, whereas the brazilian websites I usually consult state, it is not a variant of Reuben (that would be Rúben or Rubem) but derives from Latin "rubens" meaning "red".
I couldn't add this as a user submitted name. I wondered, why that is.
BTW: The pronunciation of Rubens is: /ˈhubẽjs/

I think any linkage of the name to the Latin word rubens "being red" is a red herring. It is probably taken from the surname of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens. Coming from Flanders, his surname is a patronymic on the given name Ruben (which is the German and Dutch form of Reuben), so I think the statement on this page is as accurate as it can be.
