I had never heard of Joachim as a child and first ran across it in my German language class in high school. So when I see it I always automatically think of it with the German pronunciation. I like the German pronunciation, but have never cared for the English one.

I believe the German short form is normally Achim, which I like. I think I'd prefer Kim to Joe in English.
