I really like both Cypress and Sawyer. Cypress sounds more feminine to me than Sawyer does, but it's true that Sawyer is really associated with Lost right now. What do you think of the spelling Cyprus?

I think they're both cute. I would prefer both of them on boys. Both names remind me of the Bayous and Louisiana for whatever reason.

When I first read your title, I thought Cypress might make a cute, off-beat girl's name. But now that I see you want to use it for a boy, I don't really like it, sorry. I wouldn't assume people would see Cypress as a boy's name. Sawyer is fine for a fn, if you want to pass down your family's heritage. If it's not a family surname, then I really dislike it.

Cypress, and Sawyer I adore, and prefer on a girl. But they are cute regardless of gender.-----------------------------------------------

I don't like Cypress, but I can't make my mind up about Sawyer. I sort of like it, but when it's said out loud I just think of soya. Also, it looks a lot like 'lawyer'. So I'm not sure.

Cypress makes me think of the 90s band, Cypress Hill, a group of thugs into heavy drug use and violence. I do like the tree association though. I met a little boy named Banyon last weekend, that's a nice male tree name too.Sawyer is very strongly associated with the tv show Lost right now, which turns me off. I think before that show I just found this name too surnamey.

I think Cypress would more often turn up for a girl. The word's similarity to words such as lioness, empress, etc., would tend to get a lot of English speakers to unconsciously see it as being feminine. I don't think it's an impossible name for a boy, but that is a factor you'd have to keep in mind.
