Once again, a death strikes the family! This time it's David, the patriarch of the family. Cliff especially is plunged into deep despair, closing himself off from the world, putting tension on his marriage. As he interacts with people less and less, he becomes more and more insufferable to his family. Cassandra sees their old dynamic coming back and she separates before the kids can get hurt by this. Jason and Caitlin see Cliff on the weekends and every other Christmas & Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Leia has moved out and reconnected with her father, having always believed that it wasn't his fault that he and Marcella split. She's reconnected with Shawn and Sapphire Shay, as well as meeting Cassandra, Jason, and Caitlin. She even brings her new half-siblings, Emery and Percy, for a visit.
Gabriel and Samuel are also struck hard by the loss of David. Their neighbors, Victoria Chaves and her daughter Stella (from her ex-fiance), have been visiting them often. Gabriel and Victoria immediately struck each others' fancy, and are now engaged. They have a son, Theo. Stella and Samuel are kind of weirded out by it, Stella a (former) only child, and Samuel always having a baby cousin rather than a younger sibling.
Sammie and Viktor, after a ten year non-marital relationship, are finally married. They decided to get married before Julia's tenth birthday, and fortunately David was still alive and able to walk Sammie down the aisle. They are doing quite well.
