So much has happened in just five years! For one, Shawn is now at school (and nearly in junior high), which is a good and bad thing. The good part is that he didn't have to witness his parents' heated fights because he was at preschool. The bad part is that he didn't know they were having problems, so when Cliff came into the kitchen while Shawn was doing what preschoolers call homework and asked whether Shawn wanted to live with him or Cassandra, Shawn didn't know what to do. He ended up going with Cliff. For a couple months Cliff was alone, but he soon picked up a girlfriend, Marcella Dukes, who soon had a daughter, Leia Dukes-Heath. Four years later, Shawn had another half-sister, Sapphire Shay. David and Stacy question Cliff's motives for being with Marcella, telling him he's just using her to replace Cassandra. Luckily, they don't argue as much as Cliff and Cassandra did, sparing Leia and Sapphire Shay what Shawn experienced. The girls love their big brother, not knowing he has a different mother. Shawn adores the girls, although their existence is a bitter reminder of the woman his father left behind.
Gabriel and Chloe broke up after Gabriel got drunk one to many times (their break-up was shortly after Cliff's and Cassandra's). Gabriel was very heartbroken by this, and David and Stacy used his heartbreak to encourage him to clean up his act. So he did, and three years after the break-up, he met Macie Stringer. They dated for a year before their son Samuel was born. Nine months later, Samuel's Irish twin Phoebe was born. David and Stacy are hoping this works out for him, though they'd much prefer he'd married Macie before having kids with her.
In the midst of all of this, two years ago Sammie started dating Tony Pearce, a lower-classman she met at a basketball game (he was on the men's team and she on the women's). Last year, they got engaged. Their relationship is very promising, and the whole family hopes they'll turn out well.
