If anyone has ever called the mighty Ace Shade "Horace," it was never known. Ace, a hardened man even at only 27, a man who runs an empire in his boring town in Montana, comes from a long line of men like himself, men who know how to make money. The Shade Ranch hasn't functioned as anything other than a dude ranch for three generations now. No one knows how Heather Aust wormed her way into his heart, but she did, and the result of a whirlwind romance is a young girl who looks exactly like her father.
Thalia has never met her mother. Heather never stays in one place for too long. She has mostly been raised by her aunt, Katherine Shade, sister of Ace. Katherine also has business in her blood, and is CEO of a software company. Ace does not play a big role in his daughter's upbringing, despite Katherine's many efforts. Ace is not a family man, and Katherine has not been able to change him yet.
