[Opinions] Nina (NIE-nə)
Replies
I also knew a Nina, pronounced NIE-nə, in high school. While I definitely knew what her name was, and never messed it up, reading it in print never made any dang sense to me. Unfortunately I can't say I'm a fan of it. (Then again, I'm not crazy about regular Nina, either.)
This actually was a very common pronunciation of Nina in the USA during the 19th and early 20th centuries. I think it's fine but would probably spell it as Nyna for a girl born today.
I think it's okay, but I would like to pronounce it as /nee-NA/.
It's okay but I prefer pronounce Nee-Nah tho.
Not a fan. I don’t even like Nina the conventional way.
I also knew someone who pronounced the name Nina that way. I don't dislike it, but she constantly was having to correct people, which seems potentially annoying.
I like Nina pronounced NEE-nə but it has always sounded a little too nickname-y for me.

I can see its appeal but it also just sounds like someone saying the number nine and then going "uhhhhh" like they're thinking. Nine-uh. Still, I enjoy it.
