Having read of the Wright brothers' astonishing feat at the age of 12, Edwin decided that his destiny was to become a pilot. Minerva hired a music master to teach her children the piano - Edwin is hopeless, Beatrice middling, and Clement exceptionally talented, performing in the town hall aged only 8.
