Help[Opinions] Blacksmith Character
Hi everyone. i'm looking for a name for my character. it's an American blacksmith, about twenty-eight years of age. the story is set in 1896. He has dark hair and grey eyes. he was once imprisoned for theft in New York but is keeping his past a secret. he escapes to a small town in the mid-west looking to be blacksmith and falls in love with a farmer's widow named Lacey Copeland. first names and last names appreciated.

Walter, Charlie, Claude, James, or Jack would be my suggestions. They all have varying levels of popularity in the time, but none uncommon. I was thinking Clint when I first read 'Blacksmith', but I'm not sure if that was considered a name all those years ago.
Edit: Don't name the lady 'Lacey', I will never take her seriously. The 1880's were such a hotspot for good names! ( That aren't Lacey ) take advantage of it!

Tbh, I know you didn’t ask for plot advice, but you can’t just “become” a blacksmith. It’s a highly technical and complex craft traditionally requiring a 7-year apprenticeship to even begin to master it.

Sorry, i forgot to mention it. He was trained as a blacksmith, but then imprisoned for theft. Thanks for the concern!

When he was born, and named, he wasn't a blacksmith or a thief and his hair and eyes might well not have been their adult colours. Click on Names, just to the right of the Search bar, then on Popularity and you'll find the names that were popular as far back as 1880. Pick one of those. For a surname, your public library should have street directories, voters' rolls etc from way back. Pick one of them; or just take an ordinary name, or a Mayflower passenger's name, or the name of the people next door. Or name him Copeland: then he and his lady friend will have something to talk about when they first meet.
