[Opinions] Dale
Today I met a female Dale who would have been late 20s at a guess. What do you think of Dale? Do you prefer it for a boy or girl?My first thought when I hear Dale is a chipmunk as I watched Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers on tv when I was a girl around 30 years ago.Spell Checker BluesEye halve a spelling chequer

I agree with Dale sounding like a chipmunk name. I think my grandma had a friend (woman) by this name. It sounds so rustic to me.

My cousin has a kid named Dale who was born in the early 2010s, and I find it likable. I think for a guy it's basically like Wade, Clay, Dave, Gael. It sounds ordinary, a bit rustic/quaint/dated, though similar sounding Gael has risen dramatically over the last 20 years in the US.As feminine, it seems more like Meadow, Bay, Page, Gail. It's ok, but I actually feel like it's more interesting as a masculine name; there aren't many masculine names that seem naturey, potentially unisex, and conventional at the same time.

I knew a Margaret Dale in college who went by Dale and I always thought it was pretty. It makes a nice middle name

For me Dale on a man is very "Boomer at a backyard BBQ" type name. Very suburban 60s. That gives it some charm, like finding something dorky at a garage sale, but at the same time it doesn't hold my interest very long. Dale on a woman is much more exciting, it conjures up singing cowboys and has a bit more of a vintage patina.

The only Dale I've ever known was a large, mountain-climbing twit; I'd be surprised to see a female one, but the sound could work on a girl I suppose. In fact, it has! I've just had a lightbulb moment, looked up Dale Evans (don't ask me where that came from ...) and found that she was married to Roy Rogers and was therefore a kind of singing cowgirl. I think I'd prefer the chipmunk.

It's a very wholesome mild-mannered name. I'd say unisex, but it's quite tomboyish. This name is very best-friend esque, and very friendly.
