[Facts] Pronunciation of Lael
My Irish grandmother's name was Lael, which I absolutely love and am considering using. I just discovered its original Hebrew origin though and traditional pronunciation, lay-el or la-el. My grandmother however pronounced it lail, rhymes with pail. Has anyone heard of this pronunciation before? Is this of more Gaelic origin perhaps?

Lael like pail is from the Old Testament father of Elizabeth Hebrew

By the way, the Hebrew pronunciation is La-'el. Short "a"-glottal stop-accent on "el".

My name is Lael (Pronounced Lay-el) and my name has been said so many different ways I've lost count. My least favorite pronunciation is Lail (rhymes with pail, kale, whale, etc). My friend says it like that sometimes to annoy me.

Actually I believe that most people all over the English speaking world who have this name would pronounce it that way. There really isn't much difference between "Lay-el" and "Lail", and in normal speech for most English speakers it would be hard to tell those two apart.
