Which name do you prefer, and why? Trying to decide between. Thank you in advance. (:

Marlene is vintage like Arlene and Darlene but a little more sporty/current like Marley. Kinda cute in a stylized way.
The German pronunciation is ok. I think people in the US are reasonably familiar with it.
I don't like Marlena mahr-LEEN-uh. The schwa just seems unnecessary. Or it's maybe annoyingly soft since I'm more used to Martina and Karlina. But also I don't like Elena or Helena or Lena with LEEN pronunciations...
Really I like Marlén mahr-LEHN best.

I like both but I guess if I had to pick, Marlena. No particular reason.

Marlene looks German to me and therefore sounds like mar-LAY-na inside my head. I don't like the look of Marlena, but at least it couldn't be pronounced mar-LEEN, which is really very flat and dull and ugly. I dislike most -ine and -een names, but mar-LEEN is really bad.

In Poland, it's a dated, but friendly name. Marlene (if pronounced mahr-LEEN) sounds dull and unattractive. Both remind me of Marx + Lenin.

Are they Mar-LEEN and Mar-LAY-na, or both Mar-LAY-na (mar-LEN-na)?
Because of Marlene Dietrich, I tend to read Marlene as Mar-LAY-na. I haven't met any that say it like that, though. I worked with a gal named Marlene once, pronounced Mar-LEEN. Wow, she was singular and memorable.
I don't love -ene and -ina ending names. I like Marlena - AY-na not EE-na. So I'll go with that.

Mar-LEEN for Marlene, which is how the name is typically said over here, and then Mahr-LEEN-uh for Marlena, although Mar-LAY-na and mar-LEN-na are both really stunning as well. I really like all pronounciations.
And thank you for your comment regarding the photo (: She does actually walk on the leash, although only going where she wants to go. I trained her since she was itty bitty, until she got used to wearing the harnesses and now I can put it on her without problem.

Most names ending in -ene sound nasal to me; I choose Marlena.
