The dowager queen is widowed a second time, as Edward succumbed to an illness in the past winter. Though she had held a fondness for her first husband, King Robert, her second marriage was one made for love and the loss of Edward has hit her harder. She has withdrawn much from public life. Though King Hugh retains his mistress Jean, the relationship of the king and queen is holding together. They've welcomed three more children, two princesses and a prince, the spare to the throne. Athelstan and Queen Ysabel have been growing their family more slowly, but welcomed a second son, leaving the line of succession secure. Princess Margaret had been considering suitors, but will not wed unless she can be sure her daughter's position will be secure. Princess Aveline remains shockingly unwed, to her own perfect contentment.
