Year Zero
Ronny Heike Silver and Anush Pietronella [Thwaite] Silver just had their sixth baby, an intersex child. Ronny and Anush have had four girls and one boy, but never an intersex child, and as a conservative family, they aren't sure how to feel about it. They've decided to raise their baby as a boy, but Anush refused to have surgery done on him. They name him Sparrow Everson Silver. Sparrow looks just like his father: dirty blond hair, blue eyes, and light skin. He lives in Virginia with his siblings: Jolene Rose Silver, Ada Faith Silver, Ruby Abbeline Silver, Lillian Mavis Silver, and Maxon Eliya Silver. To celebrate his birth, a family friend gifts Sparrow a hand-sewn Lamb lovey, who is promptly named Lambchop.

Year One
Sparrow's a little late to trying to walk, preferring to crawl around all day. Ronny and Anush aren't worried, though. He'll learn soon enough.

Year Two
Anush's broadening political and religious views lead Ronny and Anush to legally separate, as privately as possible. Jolene, Lillian, and Sparrow live with Anush, while Ada, Ruby, and Maxon live with Ronny. On weekends, they switch, and on Sundays they all go to church together. Sparrow doesn't really understand what's going on, but it's obvious the older kids are scared, confused, and conflicted.

Year Three
Ronny's sister, Aunt Laci, is pregnant! Sparrow's excited to have a kid closer to his age around.

Year Four
Anush, Jolene, Lillian, and Sparrow move to a new house. They're excited: the new house is much bigger, with a nice backyard.

Year Five
Sparrow is five, but he has a lot of trouble with math. He can't even count to ten. Concerned, Anush talks to his teacher and gets some materials for them to work on at home. He learns eventually, but it takes a while.

Year Six
There's an unexpected surprise this year when Ronny's girlfriend, Kae Mariana Oliviera, has a baby girl named Novalie Amparo Silver. Novalie has Kae's wavy black hair and brown eyes, but Ronny's fair skin. Sparrow doesn't see her often, so he's fine with her.

Year Seven
Ronny passes away in a hunting accident with his friends, leaving Ada, Ruby, and Maxon to move in with Anush. Novalie stays with Kae, but Anush helps take care of them through this difficult time, and they develop a close friendship.

Year Eight
Sparrow's struggling a lot in math right now. He's never been great with numbers, and things are just getting harder and harder. Anush gets him a tutor to help. The tutor's very kind and patient with Sparrow, and he's doing great. Jolene moves out and goes to college, but she calls often.

Year Nine
Even with five kids in the home, Anush decides to start fostering children. She fosters four kids: a sixteen year old boy, ten year old twin girls, and a two year old girl. The boy is named Wybie Birch Miller. The twins are named Memory Juliet Wilson and Coraline Elizabeth Wilson. The baby is named Isla Adelaide Sage. Anush feels led to adopt Wybie, so he joins her family, while the girls go on to their new foster homes. Ada and Ruby aren't happy about so many kids coming in, especially since this means Ruby has to share her room with Lillian. Sparrow and Maxon have to share a room now, too, but they don't mind: they love having a new boy around, and think Wybie's really cool.
