I feel like you’ve been missing from the board for a while? At least, I had the thought that I hadn’t seen you in a while. Glad you’re back if you were in fact gone.
Anyway, Madison doesn’t seem retro to me because too many people around here still use it. To me, it just seems like one of the original surname names that set off the Taylor to Harper boom.
I think Maddie is avoidable. If I were a Madison, I think I’d want to go by Addie.

Thank you! Yes I was so busy with work. I am only back for a few days because I am sick right now. But I will try to come here a few times per month at least in the future :)
It's ok, I think Maddie can be avoided
I know SO MANY Madison's. I still like this name. It's definitely tied to the 2000s. I do prefer Madelyn, though. Go into a room full of 11th and 12th graders and call out, "MADDIE!". Watch how many heads turn. Want a really 2000s name? Try Emily Madison (I actually like this combo). The nickname Maddie is avoidable, however.

I have never fought of that combo. I love it!
I only like it on a boy, but nowadays it's much more used as a feminine name and that is hard to avoid. Same goes for Addison.
I also think of New York, because of the character from the movie Splash.
It's hard to use another nickname for Madison (and Madeline) besides Maddie. Izzy? And in the case for Madeline, Lily? They are a stretch.

Massie? Sounds kind of like it’s short for mastitis though, haha.
I remember when I joined here circa 2007/8 it was very popular to hate on Madison. I just find it meh, and with the potential of becoming very dated.
Maddison is a friend of my stepdaughter. Maddison was named after the Daryl Hannah character in the film Splash. I don’t mind the name though I wouldn’t use it myself. Every Madeleine, Maddison and Madison I have ever known have invariably been known as Maddie.

I have never liked it as a girl name, even slightly, and nothing's changed. I don't even enjoy it for a boy, unless - and this applies to girls as well - it is a family ln and is used as a mn. That is acceptable.
Maddie happens. Whether it derives from Madison or Madeleine. So does Mads. Sad, but that's the human race for you.
