[Opinions] Elvira
What do you think of Elvira? Is it still too associated with the Mistress of the Dark, or is that not even a bad association?*******************Personal Name List:https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/187938Guilty Pleasure Name List:https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/187938/140061

Not my taste. It has an ugly sound to it

I associate it with the Noel Coward character - one of the unsatisfactory wives in Blithe Spirit. There, it's pronounced el-VEE-ra and I'd never expect anything else in English. There is minimal Spanish spoken in South Africa, of course. It seems heavy and self-important, and I wouldn't consider using it. I know nothing about Mistress of the Dark, but she sounds livelier and more interesting than the Blithe Spirit version!

Very ugly, regardless of association.

Very dated in Spain - it was most common in the 1920's.I didn't care for it at first but now it's nice, although it isn't my style. I like the meaning and look on paper.I find it surprising that it's used in many languages. I thought it was only used in Spanish and Italian.

Don't like it at all

It's kind of a bad association for a baby name, but not really in general.
Also, depends how you pronounce it. el-VEER-a wouldn't evoke the character.
I kinda like Elvira as a baby name. Now I have an earworm ... I heard this a zillion times in my youth, alas:
"My heart's on fie-a / for Elvira
Giddy uppa oom poppa oom poppa mau mau!"

Ugh, our grade three teacher had a few dances she made the class learn. One was to that godawful song. I heard it so many times. I like some country music (especially the old classics) but that was twangy garbage. I’m not sure if I would have liked the name Elvira otherwise, but that song ruined it for sure.

No idea about the association, anyway I find it incredibly ugly.

Yes, I like her too! She's campy but in the best way possible.

It's a common name here in Sweden. I think it's alright, used to like it more but I'm a bit tired of it now,
