What do you think of Rio for a girl? Do you think people would sing her the Duran Duran song all her life? I like how it is not a very feminine name, but also isn't a boy's name in its own right. Still don't know if I'd name a daughter Rio, though.

I think of Brazil instead Duran Duran. There isn't much in the way of substance and I think people would ask what it's short for. I think I'd probably save it for a pet instead of a person but that's just me.

My first thought is a Brazilian unisex name thanks to rio Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro. In Italian many Latin-American rivers are not called fiume (river in Italian) but rio (Italian as well but archaic) so in Italian it's Rio delle Amazzoni. The watery vibe is strong.
Second thought: Rio (Aníbal Cortés) character in 'La casa de papel' (Money Heist). Here in Italy nearly everyone saw this TV series. It has been very popular since 2017. I saw It as well and it's one of the best Spanish TV series imo.
So... For a Latin American person I like it for a girl. On a Western person I like it on a boy.

Prefer the Japanese name, and it's more feminine that way because it's only used for girls in Japan and plenty of feminine Japanese names end in o.

I like Rio, but more so for a boy. I think it's fine for a girl as well though and for me it's more associated with Rio de Janeiro.

Is the song that popular? I mean it’s not obscure, but I didn’t think it was that common. Anyways, Rio sounds masculine to me.

I knew a guy from school named Rio and honestly, no one ever mentioned him the song or teased him for it, at least not during the many years of schooling. As far as I could tell, the only "razz" he received about it was when one of his friends jokingly called him "Rio de Janeiro", which oddly enough is what inspired his parents to name him in the first place. I can't remember exactly but I think he mentioned that his parents where either from around there or had visited. Something to that effect.
It's a nice name. It's short and simple and it's also uncommon but not outlandish or completely unheard of. I wouldn't use the name personally but if I did (for purely hypothetical reasons), it would be for boy, which is where I prefer the name. Rio sounds way more masculine and boyish, not one bit feminine. And I'm not just saying this because of the association I had. I'm really not. Even without him, my views on the name would still be the same.

I quite like the name Rio, only for a girl and predominantly because of the Duran Duran song. I’d be one of those people that would sing the song at a girl named Rio, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing! I like that it means river.
