[Opinions] Re: Favorite Fantasy Names
in reply to a message by Layla
This reminds me, I just read a fantasy that had a character called Allanon. I had to deliberately say in my head, "a-LAN-non" like Alanna / Shannon, because thinking of it as "Al-anon" was making me laugh. Very distracting. There was also a Keltset and a Curzad - I thought those were cool.
From Earthsea - Tenar, Kalessin
From Pern - Feyrith, Merelan (had to look them up, it's been too long since I read)
From Middle Earth - Melilot, Tirion
From Prydain - Gwydion, Eilonwy, Melynlas, Medwyn, Gwystyl, Mathonwy - I read it as a kid, and was so intrigued by the Welsh names.
From Dune, if you call that a fantasy? - Irulan
Use in real life - not so much.
I might use a name from fantasy as a middle name, but probably not any of these.
Oh - I saw the name Mellisant in a book that was probably fantasy. But I can't remember what book it was. I want to say it was in Pangur Ban The White Cat by Fay Sampson, but I can't find any evidence of that online. I might consider using that one. Except there's Melisandre from icky GoT, and everyone's familiarity with that might kinda ruin it.
