It sounds okay for a boy, but I get the feeling that enough people are going to give it to girls that people are going to forget that it was originally masculine and it would end up becoming the next Ashley or Evelyn. I just can't see a name like this taking the "totally unisex" path like Reese, Morgan, or Robin.

I like it, but not enough to use or to get excited about. Perhaps it doesn't travel as well as some other Welsh names - I really like Emrys a lot, for instance.

I can't imagine what my Welsh great-great-grandfather would have said to, or about, a female Emlyn!

It sounds insubstantial to me for either gender, maybe partly because all the similar names I can think of have an R or T.

I think that this name could become trendy for girls and then it will not be given to boys.

This name has the unfortunate quality of sounding like one made up of picking a couple trendy girls' names syllables out of a hat despite its actual origin, which taints my perception of it

My cousin, now deceased, was named Emlyn.
