[Opinions] Lola and Lulu
Thoughts on both names? Which one do you prefer (no matter if as a nickname or a standalone name)?

Lulu, every time. I personally think it’s fine as a full name and also fine on an adult. Lola sounds nice to me, but the song connections and all that entails is sketchy to me and the meaning is rather unfavourable too. What about Lula? It’s kind of a cross between the two names and a name I find adorable.

Lula sounds a little clumsy. Of course, there are worse names, but this one is pretty insubstantial.Nevertheless, I don't mind it on a fictional character; in fact, I kind of like it.

Lola is best as an independent name, Lulu is best as a nickname for something it's too insubstantial as a legal name. What's your opinion on Lulabelle? I kind of like it but it's definitely under the ugly-cute category.

Lulabelle? This is the second or third time I see this name. Weirdly cutesy, TBH.Sounds like a name originated in the Southern US in the 1900's, like Velva, Joanetta or Mozelle.

I know a Velva! Yeah not one you come across too often, kind of makes me think of a combination of Velvet & uvula. Or Velveeta.

I used to to not mind Lola, but they're both just registering as pink fuzz to me right now, maybe because I like Layla so much better these days. They're okay as a NNs; I'd prefer Lulu because I like more full names for that.

Lulu always seemed cartoonish and babyish to me; then I had a wonderful colleague - much older woman - whose one and only given name was Lulu. She was a school secretary, pleasant, competent and versatile. I still don't like her name, though!Lola. The Kinks. I asked her her name, and in a dark-brown voice she said "Lola. L-O-L-A, Lola" Be still, my beating heart. But, and entirely because of the song, I don't think Lola is usable IRL, except maybe as a stage name - like the Lola in the song, of course. I've known several dogs named Lola; they don't know that they are named after a sweet transvestite (wrong music, I know ...) and it seems to suit them. Not a cat name, though: too innocent and energetic.

I love Lola. Its the best nickname for Delores, but it is so freaking cutsey. Its okay as a standalone name, I suppose. I happen to like Lulu, but that is much better as a nickname.
