[Opinions] Ione
Thoughts on Ione?
I really like it pr. EYE-o-nee. But this site says it is eye-O-nee. Is this correct?
I find it kind of forced to put the emphasis on the second syllable. EYE-o-nee is much more fun to say.

I used to know an Ione who pronounced it eye-OH-nee; her mother was a school teacher, don't remember what father did, but they would have been careful about pronunciations, I'm sure. And the island is eye-O-nuh, so there's a pattern.
ETA, in my dialect, EYE-o-nee sounds like an adjective formed from 'iron' - not the same as 'irony' because the R isn't sounded, but perhaps something could smell or taste iron-y?

Don't like it, I prounounce it the same as you
Hmm that is interesting, I've only ever known 1 Ione and she had it pronounced eye-Own-ah. I have no idea what the correct pronunciation is, sorry. I think Eye-o-nee sounds more dignified, whereas eye-O-nee sounds more rural and rustic, like a woman on a 1970s spaghetti western. I think I prefer the likes of Ianthe and Iolanthe myself but Ione is interesting. It reminds me a lot of Isla in sound and impressions.
