[Opinions] Lettice
Lettice is growing on me. I think in the Middle Ages it was actually pronounced like "lettuce" but nowadays I guess you could do leh-TEES?What do you think?I just think Lettie is so adorable and Lettice nn Lettie would be really cute.Opinions? Please rate my list: https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/6232

I mean I can kind of see the appeal of it in a way with the iambic pronunciation. It's still unusable but I suppose if it was still used there are worse things to be named after tbh.

I’m sorry but I can’t like it. It is literally impossible for me to unhear “lettuce”. Lettie is cute, but maybe you can use Violet?

I want to love Lettice because it's medieval and I adore the nickname Letty / Lettie, but I can't dissociate Lettice from lettuce, and the "leh-TEES" pronunciation is unnatural to me.

Exactly my thoughts. If not for lettuce I'd be all over the name Lettice. Dislike the "le-TEES" pronunciation. :0)

I like the sound of Lettice, but I wouldn't use it on a real child. It would be hard on a small child to have other kids think she was named Lettuce and be confused.

Not a fan, sounds too much like “lettuce “ or “lattice.” Laetitia prime Letizia is better:

I agree with Amphelise - it's nice, but not on a real child. I grew up watching Tokyo Mew Mew and I found it insanely odd that one of them was literally called Lettuce. We snickered at it. Lettice sounds like a "fancy" way of saying Lettuce and I don't see kids being kind about it.I'm somebody who believes that kids are always going to be picked on for something anyway, and even normal names get picked up. My surname (of which I will not be sharing) and an old friend called Stephanie who used to be name-called Fanny etc If you are in a culture that might be more accepting of a name like Lettice then you could try it, but if you're worried about possible bully-bait, I'd give it a pass Lettie is cute. Sounds like a flapper name

Lol, yep - kids can always find something to pick on, but a name like Lettice is a glorified "kick me" sign.

It still sounds like Lettuce, or did in the late 19th, early 20th centuries: I encountered a book of children's poetry once, which included a poem about sweet Lettice looking through her lattice ... Lettie is sweet for children all right, but I don't see it ageing very well. Letitia ... ? Seems more adult.

One of my teachers at school had a daughter named Lettice, pronounced just like lettuce. I guess she would be in her teens now. People commented on it a lot. I prefer Lettie as a nn for Violet or Violetta.

Terrible

I don't think it would be a good idea on a real child. They'd go through school being called Salad or Rocket or Iceberg or something. Letitia is better if you want Lettie.
