[Opinions] Penny
What do you think of Penny? Can it be short for anything besides Penelope? **After supposedly dying on January 30, 2007 after eating tainted pancakes, she returned several times as an angel and was revealed to be alive on May 17, 2011. )**

It's cute as a nickname: shiny and minty. It could work as a nickname for Aspen, Penninah, or Penjani.

I like Penny. A few years ago I named my bunny this, and I miss her dearly. It has a special place in my hart and I would consider using it for a child as well.
I like it as a nickname for Penelope as well, but Penelope is not an option for me but if I lived in an english speaking country I'd probably use Penelope nn Penny instead.

I like Penny. Peninnah and Aspen could be shortened to Penny.

I like Penny a lot; I'd use Penelope, nn Penny, because I like more options rather than fewer.DH has a cousin Penelope, always known as Penny. They don't particularly get on. When our daughter was born, she had masses of bright-red hair and, though we'd decided on her name, I took one look and said "We should name her Penelope - she looks just like your cousin". Of course, this got vetoed very rapidly. And I had a friend at uni who was known as Penny though her given names are nothing close to it: when she was a baby she squeaked a lot and for some reason was known, first as Penny Squeaker and then as Penny. She went by nothing else. But a couple of her buddies pretended it was really short for Penelope and started calling her Lopes, pronounced LOHps; this never caught on, but they did it anyway.

It's cute but not that great as a human name. My mother's little dog is named Penny, and it's more a doggie name to me.
I think it can be short for Patricia? And also for someone with reddish/coppery colored hair?

I think I prefer just Penny on her own, not as a nickname. Penny is cute, but not too cute - it works on its own.I do like New_Chloë's idea of Penrose "Penny" though.

I've only ever met one single Penny in my life and that has really coloured my perception of the name. I think of a very soft-spoken, calm, 50-something woman with blonde hair. For that reason even though it is a very youthful name I can't picture it on anyone young. It's a cute name, though, and my associations with it aren't bad. I like the idea of a character named Penny whose real name is something kind of dark - like Penemue or Pentagram. Or maybe for a surname-name like Penrose or Pennington.

I have a 2-year-old niece named Penny Georgia. Her parents did consider Penelope but figured that as they would only ever call her Penny there wasn't any point. Her middle name is after her grandfather George.I also have an aunt in her 60s who is known as Penny. Her real name is Helen Gisela, but her hair was the colour of a new penny when she was born, and the nickname stuck. She goes by Helen professionally but to family she will always be Penny.Penny could also be short for...Peninnah
Pernilla
Peronel
Petronella
Petronia

The nickname thing is true. My niece is Penelope and my sister specifically did NOT want the nickname Penny.
She was ok with Penna or Nell or tons of other options. But, people just could not stop calling the kid Penny... so now she identifies as Penny.

I used to really like this name until I met a coworker with it that I, over time, came to dislike. I never hated her, she wasn't a horrible person or anything, she was just the sort of person who was mildly and consistently annoying over a long period of time. Ruined the name for me.Other names it can work as a nickname for:Peninnah
Aspen
Spencer
