Help[Opinions] Gladys
I've decided to temporarily designate Gladys as my favorite name. I think it's going to be one of the first true dusty doilies to come back into fashion. I find it fascinating. I like the broad, big sound, I'm fascinated by the y and the s, I'm impressed by the big G and the open-mouthed A. I wish my niece Ruby was a Gladys.

It feels frumpy to me, but cheery. The polar opposite of Claudia, which feels elegant, but glum.

For the first 12 years of my life, we had two sets of neighbours where the wife's name was Gladys. They were both working-class immigrants from the UK (Yorkshire and Scotland); one had married an Afrikaans man and was always called Gladys, and the other had emigrated with her Yorkshire husband (Leslie), who sometimes called her Glad-Eyes. Her eyes were pretty all right - green and brown speckles - but I didn't like the pun. Then, my daughter had a school friend, French-speaking and an immigrant from the DR Congo, whose name is Gladys. I can't imagine how that happened; to my knowledge there isn't a St Gladys, for instance. Anyway, this Gladys was extremely good at Art and has become an architect.

The "Celtic connection". Gladys isn't unheard of in France (https://www.meilleursprenoms.com/popularite-prenom/Gladys), even though the Breton form is, strictly speaking, Gladez. But then again, Breton names were not exactly allowed for quite some time and... you know how it goes. And then of course there was Ouida and her novel "Puck" which got translated into French in 1889.

It's kind of cool. I'm personally not ready to use it but I would be happy to see it on someone else. It has a happy, innocent quality to it.
Gladys Mary is the best, it makes me think of a silent movie star and old Hollywood (back when original content was still created and every other movie wasn't a bad sequel or remake).
I also weirdly like it with Harmony even though I don't like the name in general.

I once knew a girl named Gladys who sadly passed away as a teenager. She was larger than life, always wore bright pink tracksuits and wore a chunky gold chain. She was hilarious.
Her mother was Nigerian and didn't realise the name was considered old fashioned in the UK when she chose it for her daughter, but Gladys worked it.

She was. We went camping once with a youth group and she convinced us all to eat ham and orange slice sandwiches.
At her funeral, everyone had to wear pink. I'm glad others like her name.

Oh, I love Gladys. I'd totally use it IRL. I wish my grandma was called Gladys. I enjoy my secret fantasy belief that it comes from the Latin word for "sword" because it has that kind of energy to it. Gladys is tough. I don't know if I agree that Gladys will come back - don't people see it like they do Ethel or Mildred? But then, Edith sort of came back, so I have no idea. Maybe we just need one awesome pop culture Gladys.

I unironically love Gladys. It's terribly underappreciated and due for a comeback. And look, it has "glad" right there, how could it not make people happy?!
When Gladys was in my Top 10 years ago, my stock combo was Gladys Emily, which I thought was a perfect combination of old and new. I still really like it. Gladys Ivy also appeals.
Of your combos, I like Gladys Mary (the reverse was actually the name of my oldest great-aunt) the most. Gladys Harmony is also cute, if a little gimmicky.
