Isabelle is fine in a French context, but I don't see the point of using the French spelling and then mangling the pronunciation - usually izaBEL with the English, not the French L. I like Isabel very much. It was never very common here in South Africa, but never so rare as to be unfamiliar.I heartily dislike Isabella. When I was a student, I knew two girls who were best friends and doing the same courses: both small, dark, pretty and both named some form of Isabel - I never knew what their names were, but their nns were Bella and Iz!
