[Opinions] Menzies
Menzies pronounced Mingis. WDYT?Added for infoIn Scotland there used to a character called a yogh which is pronounced like the start of yo-yo but with a hard g. The yogh no longer exists but it is now represented by z but sounds a bit like a y.
The name was likely originally pronounced mingyus now Mingus and Dalziel pronounced Deeyell.

It lends itself, sadly, to dumbing down. There was an Australian (I think!) politician with the ln Menzies, and it was always pronounced MENzeez, presumably so as not to alienate the voters. My BIL had a good friend at school called Patrick Dalziel, which was always pronounced Deeyell; not a public figure, and not in Australia either!

Don’t care for it. Sounds ugly.

I've always been intrigued by this name and pronunciation. I also like the way it sounds in my head reading it, Men-zees. But I prefer the straightforward spelling Mingus and the reference to Charles Mingus for a kid. Interesting to hear to the rationale behind the spelling. And I had never heard of Dalziel or how it's pronounced before, so thanks for sharing.

I read it as Menses.. oopsYeah it lends itself to being read men-ZEES and it looks like menses, which is really unfortunate for English speakers.

It's... strange, to say the least. Never heard it before and definitely did not pronounce it right at first sight...
