I don't consider Lily (just) a nn for Lilian but a formal name in itself (like Rose, Jasmine, Iris etc).
Every popular name risks sounding dated in 20-30 years. But Lily is a traditional name, I think names like Madison an McKenzie will sound more dated, b/c they have no long history.
Many people say that Jennifer was too popular earlier and therefore too dated now. But Jennifer is still No. 42, does not sound that outdated. (And there were still 1043 girls named Heather in 2005.)
If you love Lily, I think you should use it and don't worry how it will sound in 30 years. Even if no parents name their daughters this name then, it does not mean that Lily is a bad name.
