It's one of those abbreviated Latin names that can pass as ambiguous genderwise (vs Christianus / Christiana), like Julian, Vivian, etc.
I don't like Christian for either gender. It's so unsubtle but trying not to be, I'd rather people use Christmas...mainly because I just don't like wordy group identifiers as FNs. I like Christiana and Kristen more than Christina and Christine. And I would prefer Christobel or Christopher to any of those.
