Um...so my cousin is having a baby girl. They're huge Hockey fans, so they chose the name Hockey. I hate this name so much, and I hope they dont actually name their daughter Hockey. Their other option is Faith Marie, and I like that waaaaay more than Hockey. What are your opinions? They're asking.

A historian wouldn't name their kid "History". A cinephile wouldn't name their kid "Movie". They'd pick something with more nuance and meaning. Picking "HOCKEY" makes it sound like they just landed on earth.

True. I have a cousin who was named after a golfer; it's dull to think about her being named Golf instead - no story there.

It rings as a "in utero name", just a silly nickname to call the baby by until it's born and has a proper name. Faith Marie is sweet.

With all the respect, Hockey can't be a forename. The word "hockey" was born to indicate a sport, not to be used as a baby name.
I think the little Hockey would be joked at any time of her life, and maybe will change her name when she will grow up. So, for their daughter's serenity and happiness with herself and her family, they shouldn't name her Hockey. Also, in some countries the registry offices are really severe and would reject Hockey.

I wonder if they're joking?? It'd be a good way to avoid criticism of the real name choice (eg. everyone will beg for them to use Faith, because it's not Hockey).
If not...Hockey is certainly unique, and she could go by Kiki if she hated it...

Yep, I will, definitely. Their other daughter is named Jada Nicole, and I really like that name. Hockey and Jada just don't fit...

Hockey is terrible. The sound is bad, the look is bad, and also shoving your own interests onto your kid in such a blatant way is bad parenting.
