[Opinions] Re: Top 10 for April
in reply to a message by NobodyOfConsequence
Micah Samuel - I may not be a Samuel fan (or a "Sam" fan in general), but I know a combo with a good flow when I see it. This is great!
August Reilly - On paper this is great, but I can't read this name and not see a popped collar, lol! Don't know if he plays tennis, though.
Leo Zachariah - I like seeing Leo by itself, and Zachariah is an unexpected but delightful companion. I think I would've opted for Leo Zacharias, though, but that's just me.
Wilson Ezekiel - This feels very Western, like a Civil War veteran from the Great Plains, or the Southwest. Basically, like a character in the recent Tom Hanks film News of the World.
Hugo Jonathan - While I prefer Hugh to Hugo (don't like the "go" bit), this is a good combo.
Archie Malachi - I'm already not a fan of Archie (don't like the "arch" part, and I'm also not fond of Alfie, Charlie, etc. as legal names), but this combo bothers me because of how the "ch" is pronounced differently in both names. It doesn't make visual or auditory sense to me. Sorry.
Thomas Carter - As a first and last name, it's nice, if a little boring. There are probably thousands of Thomas Carters in the world. But I cannot get behind Carter as a personal name ("guy who carts things") - nor Cooper, nor any of the other -er surname names.
Harvey Asher - This was an unexpected combination. Harvey is a little dated, but I can see it making a comeback. And while I don't like "ash" names in general, Asher goes well here.
Thatcher Gray - Thatching a gray roof? That's the image in my mind. As a personal name, Thatcher is way less popular than Carter, Cooper, etc., and it also gives me East Coast prep school vibes, like August Reilly.
Jack Fletcher - Fletcher is the second worst of the surnames-as-names group (the worst being Tucker), I cannot understand the appeal of "fletch" as a sound. Sorry.
Noah Lincoln - Noah is a good name, if played out in the youngest generation; and Lincoln is a unique option for a middle name that would set little Noah apart from the others.
Lilia Autumn - The ending schwa of Lilia runs into the beginning "aw" of Autumn, and I trip over saying this aloud. I think this combo would be far more attractive with the names reversed: Autumn Lilia.
Aurora Hazel - I wish I could love Aurora, mostly because I wish I could say it. There's a town called Aurora near me, and every time I refer to it the name sounds horrible coming out of my mouth - it's all vowels and the letter R. That middle syllable gets nearly completely skipped over: uh-RUHHHR-uh. :-(
That said, I do like Hazel.
Willow Sarah - This is sonically and thematically similar to Aurora Hazel, but better imo. And easier to say. :-)
Sylvie Maya - I like these names individually, but I'm not sure how I feel about them together. They feel like different genres. Perhaps Sylvie Maelle (Maëlle), instead?
River Elizabeth - Yay, River on a girl! Since it's an unusual name, a "filler" like Elizabeth isn't too boring as a middle.
Lydia Marlowe - This looks like the first and last name of a 19th century Gothic novel (or a parody, like Northanger Abbey or Villette). I can't really get behind Marlowe as a feminine name, because I keep thinking about the playwright. I do like Lydia, though.
Ivy Matilde - I don't usually see this spelling: Matilde. It's usually Mathilde (or Matilda). It looks a bit incomplete to me as a result - and I think I prefer the sound of Ivy Matilda, anyway, though they still are two names I wouldn't necessarily pair together.
Sasha April - This combo is the most "modern" of them all, yet the two names themselves each have a very different "feel," imo. Sasha is wispy, diaphanous even, whereas April is a one-two punch. The difference is almost jarring.
Cleo Amalia - I'm not normally a fan of Cleo, but I do like the flow here.
Sinead Elaina - This is another unexpected pairing. It sounds wonderful, but visually it's a little odd because the "ea" and "ai" make the same sound. I think Sinead Elena looks better.
Romi Anastasia - Love Anastasia, but can't see Romi as someone's legal name. Sorry.
