Help[Opinions] Susannah...
WDYT? This name has been on my mind today for a future daughter. I like the name, but I think the question of nicknames deterred me from putting it on my shortlist in the past. I am not a fan of "Sue." Also, it's similar to other names I like, such as Seraphina and Sabrina, but today this one's winning out.
Today I decided that the best nicknames I like for Susannah are Suki and Zan (although Zan feels more grown up). My best friend goes by Suki, but I wouldn't mind honoring her. (She is Moroccan and it is short for a longer Arabic name.) Plus it would honor my aunt, who is named Susan "Sue."
Weirdly, I used to think this name sounded so silly, due to the song, "Oh, Susanna," but it increasingly grew on me. For whatever reason, I seem to have a weakness for biblical names.
The name seems to be an uncommon classic, so I'm curious, what are your impressions of Susannah?
What do you think of the combo Susannah Lucy Tamar? I figured it would be nice to have a usable middle such as Lucy, in case my best friend for instance felt strange calling her by her own name. Feel free to suggest other middles.

I'm not crazy about this name, but I like the Biblical connection and how femininely strong it is, plus definitely more interesting than Susan. The only nickname I like is Susie. Susannah Lucy is definitely a great combo, Tamar fits well in here too with the Biblical connection, although I don't care for the name as such.
A few ideas: Susannah Lucy Helen, Susannah Lucy Rose, Susannah Lucy Esther.

You know, there's something about names from folk songs that are a fascinating mix of annoying and wonderful. Susannah, Matilda, John Jacob, Jericho, Liza Jane, Clementine, Irene, Lou, Daisy.... they stick with you. They do grow on you. They become nostalgic and warmly whimsical as one ages, I think.
I don't think you have to worry about Sue. It's such an old fashioned nickname nowadays that it's practically obsolete. I went to school with a Susanna and she was always just Susanna. I'd call a Susannah Zsa Zsa ;) I like Suki and Sukie a lot too, they have pizzazz.

It's been my top girl name for at least a decade now. It's just beautiful, isn't it? I hate Sue though, and Susie is insipid. My preferred nickname is Annie but the name in full is so gorgeous I'd be tempted to try to avoid a nickname.

I like Susannah enough to use it as a mn; it is a family name on DH's side. My standard combo is Helen Susannah Joy.
Susannah Lucy works well. I'm not fond of Tamar, but as a second middle it'd be fine. I'd probably go for Susannah Lucy Dinah or Susannah Lucy Mabel.

I like it. I like Sue, too, it's cute (helps that I have a friend Sue, though she's Susan). I'd use Suzannah if I were going to call her Zan. Zanna could work (maybe too close to Vanna though?).

Susanna / Susannah seems to be quite popular on BtN, actually, but I could never get behind the name. Not that, nor Susan, nor Suzette, nor any of the "Sue" names. Not only is Sue, to me, the ultimate "Mom name" (with Ted or Gary being the ultimate "Dad name"), but the sound reminds me of lawsuits.
I think the original Hebrew form, Shoshana / Shoshanna, is far prettier.

it is cute! I have considered "Zana" as a modern NN for Suzannah in the past. It makes a little more sense with the Suzannah spelling than the Susannah spelling though because of the Z. My mother is a Susannah and she detests Sue. Her side of the family will occasionally call her "Sal" or "Sally" for short though I am fairly certain that isn't a direct diminutive as much as just as an unrelated term of endearment.
