[Opinions] Antoinette
So today I realized that this is like, the perfect name. I mean, in terms of my own standards.
It's got everything I love. It's OTT to the point of being trashy, it's Romantic, it's historical, it's got morbid associations, it's unpopular, and it's got great potential nicknames that range from sweetly vintage to brassy (Annie, Nettie, Toni). It's also a family name because my great-grandfather had a sister named Antoinette (she was a Toni). It's got it ALL, baby. The only thing that makes me sad is that we don't know what it means. I think the traditional made-up meaning for it is "priceless" (at least, that's what I remember reading in many, many, many baby name books), which is just beautifully tacky.
Anyway, what do you think about Antoinette? Do you prefer Antonia? (I also love Antonia a really lot, it's so booming)
Feel free to share any combos, if you want! I'm going to be playing with this name for a bit.

Yeah I love it!
Smart, gothic, ballerina vibes for me.
I would love to be an Antoinette but could never pull it off.
Antonia is ok but nowhere near Antoinette. I always think of a girl who went to my school who was very smart but kind of goofy and fun too.

I like it a lot. I like Antonia too, but I like Antoinette better. It is definitely a bummer that no one knows the meaning.
I strongly dislike Anthony/Antony/Tony related names, Antoinette is the single exception (I also dislike Antonia). Maybe because I've never met an Anthony/Tony I liked. Tony in particular comes off as a slimy guy. Nettie is an adorable nickname! I think Antoinette makes a great and interesting middle name. I haven't made any combos for this name in ages, but you've inspired me to play around with it too.
I like your description of it. Mostly it sounds vintage to me, apart from the Marie Antoinette association. I think of lace curtains.

I love your quirky Antoinette combos, I love the energy you've captured here.
Antoinette Oona is inspired!
I want to be Antoinette Sally's friend, I bet she'd be a hoot.
And I have to mention Avdotya, what a cool name, that's a new one for me!

Antonia is boring, Antoinette is definitely prettier and more interesting. I don't think it's trashy (I don't think any name is trashy lol) it's always seemed fancy and "upper class" to me. I love -ette names rn.
I should reassure you that I don't think "trashy" is a bad thing, I love trashy stuff. I love kitsch. So when I describe Antoinette as trashy I mean it with love.
To me Antoinette is fancy like Liberace was fancy. Like, yes, undeniably upper class but also juuuust a bit too much.

Lol yes!
I was at school with an Antoinette Marion. Her family had a tradition of using A- names; her brother is Alan. At school she was mostly known as Mac, because of her Scottish ln; when she started at nursing college, people called her Toni and it stuck; plus, she married a Welshman and lost her Mac- name.
Priceless, eh? As in, incredibly expensive, or, incredibly funny? Yeah, and the -h- got into Antony (Anthony) because of another false etymology: flower! It's a pity one doesn't know, but look at Katharine: more meanings than I can count, some of them not very nice, my dear, and yet people keep using it because it's so beautiful and with such a long history. I think Mark Antony for the boys and Marie Antoinette for the girls provide enough meaning for anyone.
I prefer the sound of Antonia, and the rhythm.

Antoinette Marion is a really nice name!
I think it's priceless as in very expensive, but I love the idea that it actually means "incredibly funny" lol. That puts a great spin on things.
I also love the sound of Antonia - it's a bit more exotic to my ears and eyes than Antoinette.

I like Antoinette much better than cold, remote Antonia. I prefer Toni by itself over both, however.
Antonia really is cold and remote. Sometimes that's what I like about it, but sometimes it seems a bit too grand and classy for me.
I prefer Antoinette to Antonia , both ok names

Antoinette Delphine would be lovely
Antoinette Lily has a kind of charm to it, and I normally dislike Lily. Nice one!
Antoinette Evelyn has a wonderful cadence.
