Middle name quality. Not bad

I'm not too keen on moon by itself I'm afraid, though I do like it a little more when cupped as Moonlight or Moonbeam

This is one case where Luna is actually better. I love the moon and all, but the word doesn't make a nice name.

Why not, if there are Luna and June, especially the former. But just like Luna, Moon might have negative connotations, which could cause some trouble.
Moreover, it's boring, I guess: a frequently used word.
All in all Moon is not my piece of cake, albeit it has its charms and I understand why it might become someone's guilty pleasure.
