[Opinions] What is your favorite nickname for Margaret?
I have been doing some historical research on the area I grew up in, which for almost two centuries was largely comprised of Dutch Americans. Two of the most common names I see for women when looking through archives are Geertje (nickname for Gertrude) and Greetje (nickname for Margaret).
I had never really heard of either, which just has me thinking about all the possibilities that come with Margaret (since I’m not really a Gertrude person myself).
Any favorites?

May, Rita, Meta, Margot
I forgot about Meta! I love that too.
Greta, Madge, Meg, more
Probably Greta although that feels more like a standalone name to me than the others.
Madge / Midge are fun and seem natural to me but also antiquated.
Meg seems natural to me and more classic but still a little dated because of Megan's recent popularity.
Also Mags has been growing on me. That one's the most current seeming to me, maybe.
I guess Peggy could be revived, too. It seems similar to Penny, which I like.
Margot and Maisie are okay, but Margot sounds bossy to me, and Maisie seems saccharine. And those seem like standalone names.

Greta, Maisie, Maggie, & Mae
Mars
It’s just so nice.

I do like Margaux but I don't see it as a nickname for Margaret but a name in its own right. Margaret nn "Margaux" would seem odd and far-fetched to me. Same with Greta which is so popular on its own.
To be honest I strongly dislike Margaret and can't think of a nickname I like either. As I said I like Margaux but Margaret nn Margaux would seem so odd to me I just couldn't do it. So I guess Meg?

I think my favorite nn for Margaret is semi-dated Margie. Midge is alright and kind of fun & spunky. Otherwise, most of the others I can think of, I prefer as standalone names vs. as a nn for Margaret, like Mae or Margo(t). In my search, though, I realized Maisie could also be a nn for Margaret & that is a cute idea.
