[Opinions] Nicorette or Nicolette
My American Cousin named her daughter Nicorette Kinsleigh R------ a few weeks ago. Nicorette is something to help people quit smoking Cigarettes. What are your thoughts on this name? Personally I think that it's sort of weird and stupid. The good thing about it is that Nicorette is to help people quit smoking Cigarettes, but it also has an association with Cigarettes which isn't a good thing. I think that Nicorette is going to get teased for her name, and wish her mother picked Nicolette instead.
What are your thoughts, Nicorette or Nicolette? Personally I'd go for Nicoleta since that goes with my heritage better, but Nicolette is way better than Nicorette any day.

Nicorette is absurd.
I'm embarrassed for your cousin. What an appalling name to give a child. This is where veto laws like other countries have would come in handy in the US - the registry office could have nixed it as an act of cruelty.
Honestly, what on EARTH is your cousin trying to say with this name?!
I hope she regrets it and changes it to something else ASAP.

Nicolette is gorgeous. Definitely a lot better than Nicorette. Like what even is that?
That is almost criminal.
I agree with you
The smoking association is too much of a negative, even if it is supposed to help one quit the habit
Nicolette would be better, but it's still too similar for me. Nicoleta is better or just Nichole / Colette
It's not the word product-name I've heard been used. I once heard there was a spike in the 60s(?) for naming kids after a skin-whitener brand which is just... [cringes in racism]. I'll see if I can dig that one out if anybody is interested to know what brand it was

A few years ago there was a cashier at my local supermarket whose name badge startled me: Vinoliah. With an h on the end. But - I didn't like to ask, so this is speculation - perhaps the h was there to humanise it, like Susannah, Rebekah, etc. Whatever: she had been named after a somewhat posh brand of bath soap.
If you can find the skin-lightener reference, I'd be interested.

Admittedly Vinolia sounds nice, but being named after soap is sad. Not as bad as cigarettes and skin-whitener, but it's sounds like you're naming her to have a career as a janitor.
I found exactly where I got this information from;
http://www.nancy.cc/baby-name/nadinola/
There's actually several names, but the one that stuck with me was this... uncomfortable advert
I mean they're both uncomfortable, but I think the advertising text for this one is worse. Poor Miss Empire State. She wins a beauty contest and gets "gigs" like advertising skin-lightening cream. What's worse, I can't find any other photos of her on the internet. I google the following;
"dee simmons" "miss empire state" 1962
and her legacy is this bloody product

Horrifying indeed - thank you.
Yes, I totally agree. Nicorette's 7 year old sister is named Braeliegh Karen R., so they both have " yuneek " names. Braeliegh is not a typo, and she goes by Karen instead. Karen is teased constantly because of the Karen memes, but she doesn't know why and always replies with "Yeah, I'm a Karen, so what?". She hates her first name, is trying to convince my cousin (their mother) to change her name to Lucille, her favorite name. My cousin (their mother) says no, and that she should like her name because that's who she is. While I don't like when people change their name (even though I went by William "Wil" when I lived in North America for 6 years because people mispronounced my name. Also because I wanted to fit in, but I really regret that I went by William instead of my name. Especially since I go by "Wil".), in Karen's case, I would definitely agree. Karen says she would keep her middle name since she's named after her grandmother, but she really hates Braeliegh. My cousin (her mother) has a very common name, so she wanted to give their names a "funky spelling". My cousin is changing Nicorette's name to Nicolette though, so that's sort of a relief. However, she is keeping Kinsleigh as her middle name.
Also, just so everyone knows, my cousin asked me to make this. I didn't talk about her behind her back, and she wanted to hear people's opinions.

I think it's just plain stupid to name a kid Nicorette. It's on the same level as naming her Nutella or Ovaltine. It makes the parents look either ignorant or mean.
I’m sure your cousin is a wonderful person, but Nicorette is horrible.
Oh but Beretta is so charming!
Cigarettes are good! Personally I think Nicolette is snobby, and I like Nicorette. Tho there is the cessation device to remember, which sux. Nicotiana is what she should have gone with.
I have never heard of Nicorette outside of the stop-smoking aid. Its not a great name, especially for an American child.
I am not a huge fan of -ette names usually, so Nicolette is just meh for me, but its miles better than Nicorette.

Yes first thing I thought was the cigartte association, nicolette so much better
Haha. I mean, it's a cross between Nicotine and Cigarette. It's not a bad-sounding name, but it's culturally appalling.
Nicolette is pretty.
