What's your opinion on the name Rainer? Do you think its a unisex name, strictly for boys, or just girls?

I like the name, its kinda growing on me to be honest.

I'm always thrown by the names people ask about being unisex. This is a rather masculine male name. It's quite Germanic; in the US I'd expect it to be used by people named after their German grandfather. I find it hard-nosed and martial, handsome on someone else.

It's not unisex, but I like it for a boy. I prefer Rayner, though.

I prefer the spelling Reiner because as Rainer I always want to pronounce it 'rain-r'. But it is a very attractive sound. Strictly male though.

As Rayner, it's just another lnfn. Which could be used as a mn if it was a family name.

As Rainer, I'd expect to see their brother Stormer and sister Gail.

Gosh, it would never occur to me to use it for a girl. I do sort of like it. But only for boy.

Raynor is my grandmother's maiden name. It's spelled various ways in genealogical records. I think the end sound "ner" is more masculine. Just keep in mind that people will probably shorten it to Ray.
